Nigella / Kalonji Seeds
Kalonji, also known as black cumin, nigella, or by its scientific name Nigella sativa, is a flowering plant that belongs to the buttercup family. It can reach a height of 12 inches (30 cm) and produces a fruit with seeds that can be used as a tasty spice in a variety of dishes.
Kalonji is well-known for its therapeutic benefits in addition to its culinary purpose.
Its usage as a natural cure for everything from pneumonia to diarrhoea may be traced back several centuries.
Curries, veggies, and pulses all benefit from the dry-roasted seeds. They can be used in recipes with pod fruit, vegetables, salads, and chicken as a spice. The black seeds are used to flavour bread products in several cultures, and they are used in many Bengali cuisines, most notably in naan, as part of the spice mixture panch phoron (meaning a mixture of five spices).
